Fantasy Using Mythological Gods

I’m a bit confused about time right now, but that’s okay because at least I have a few days of break! Monday is going to hurt though.

So I brought some of this up in my most recent sporking chapter, and I had thoughts about it with the latest God of War game, considering games that came previously in that series, so since I don’t know what else to write I thought I’d give it a go!

Books with Lessons vs. Indoctrination

I am still doing National Novel Writing Month, and while the result right now isn’t, strictly speaking, good, I’m having some fun. If this draft goes anywhere I’ll need to go back and fill in a lot of gaps, but some people say that’s a fine way to approach writing.

Last week was YALLFest, hence the lack of Saturday Note, and I had a lot of fun! I’m about to talk smack about one of the panels though, but keep that in mind.

And hey, I finished re-watching Spectacular Spider-Man on Netflix! It’s going to be taken down after December 15, but it will be up on Disney+ if you have that, I think? If it’s not already? Something to look for.

I also realize that the word “indoctrination” is being thrown around a lot in regards to books and what children have access to, and I’m not really talking about book banning in the media so I’m (perhaps irresponsibly) kind of sidestepping that entire topic in doing this Note.

Cultural Attitudes Towards War

 Happy Guy Fawkes Day!

This week has been mostly better than the last one, in terms of how I’m feeling by the end, but I STILL need to put up pictures of the trip and I hope to get to that this weekend. That, and a review of Black Adam. Next weekend is YALLFest, so it’s probable that there isn’t a Saturday Note to post.

Thought about this because I re-read Servant of the Underworld this past week.

[Side note: I would really, REALLY like to see one of those “You butcher and slaughter in the name of your god” speeches aimed at like… a Norse warrior in a temple for Odin.]

On Skeptic Characters

There are a lot of things I considered writing about, especially considering that National Novel Writing Month is next week, and I’m slightly freaking out about it. Do I want to try doing something for it? I feel if I want to call myself a writer I should at least make an effort, but I am increasingly convinced that I don’t really have any writing skills. I do have part of an outline I had started working on last year, and I think it might be worthwhile to try to work on that one story because it has dragons and swords and stuff, and that’d be cool. But I don’t know! You tell me.

There were a couple of other topics I thought about, but many of those were either too short, or too heavy. I don’t know that you want a Note about why you should have a Plot idea when you make a story pitch, or how religion and secular thought differ on their views of the nature of evil and how to address it.

Anyhow, that’s not the topic of today’s Note. Inspired by Father Brown stories.

Robin Hood Needs More Archery

Well it has been a WEEK. Work has been a bit hectic, to put it lightly. But I’ve gotten a lot of books read, and I put up the Halloween list I’ve been kicking around in my head since last year, and you can read it here on Tumblr.

Anyway I recently rewatched the Ridley Scott Robin Hood movie so let’s talk about a thing that I’ve thought about.

No, it’s not about the canceled Nottingham script, get over it. Fun fact though: I did look up trick shots on Skyrim while writing this.

On Character Popularity

I have a Note idea of a list of movies/shows/books to consume over the course of October for Halloween, but I need to look over it again. I imagine that you would find it disappointing because I don’t watch that much  Halloween/horror content. I had hoped to have it out today, because I fully expected to do more this week, but it has turned out… weird, and I don’t know that I liked it.

So we’re going to talk about this thought I had while on a walk through my neighborhood. Inspired a bit by the sporking.

Please Check Your News

Hallo! I hope if you’re reading this that you came through Hurricane/Tropical Storm Ian okay, and can go out for a nice dinner or something.

I recently re-read The Sandman, Volume 6: Fables & Reflections and guess what! I still like it very much. I’m currently reading another Redwall book, and after that I think I’ll finish the Inheritance Cycle. I’m playing the “Iki Island” expansion for Ghost of Tsushima (the Eagle in Jin’s head will not shut up). After that I should be able to finally get to “Forgotten Saga” and “Tombs of the Fallen” on Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.

Also! Probably not best to play PS4 when there’s a risk of power going out.

Today we’re not going to talk about fiction! Or rather, I suppose we are, when we’re talking about misinformation, but not, like, novels and television and stuff.
