On Smart Characters

I tried something a little different and I read a George R.R. Martin book! I’m still not doing A Song of Ice & Fire, especially since that series has no end in sight, but I did read A Knight of Seven Kingdoms. It went well. Don’t expect the Book Diary to be updated very much for a couple of days, though–I’m a bit busy.

We’re a bit more rushed than usual, given circumstances, but I hope this turned out okay.

Roku’s Spiderwick Chronicles

Today is both Star Wars Day and Free Comic Book Day! So get yourself on that!

I have finished the first season of Warrior; it’s an odd sort of show, being both a martial arts and gang drama. Still, it is entertaining and focuses on a people and period often ignored by pop culture. I also finished Don Quixote, and am currently working on God Emperor of Dune (that may have been a mistake).

Unclear if we’ll have a Saturday Note next week! Sorry, folks!

Now let’s talk about The Spiderwick Chronicles.

On Prejudice in Fiction

I have had a slow past couple of days, but I’m going to be out today for a bit. I wrote this beforehand, obviously (I always do), though Friday night was a bit more hectic than I’d like. I’m still reading Don Quixote–though I’m almost done–because it is really long. After that will be… heck, I don’t know. A library book, maybe? Or maybe another book I grabbed in the house.

Shogun is finished, and it was excellent, so right now I’m circling through Brooklyn 99, Warrior, and the Roku Spiderwick Chronicles, which I have thoughts about, though we’ll save that for another time. The movie was a better adaptation though.

Also apparently my writing music right now is the full soundtrack for Horizon Forbidden West?

On Stage & Screen

[rubs forehead] Uh, hi there. I didn't sleep much last night. My original intro was more upbeat. I apologize.

This week I started Don Quixote, which is quite a long book, so aside from comics and illustrated books (and maybe the odd BIONICLE book?), don’t expect my Book Diary to update for a while.

The new adaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles is now on Roku! Get a look at that if you’ve got the time and the Roku.

I didn’t exactly know what to write this week. I have a plan that one day I will write about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but that’s going to take some more work than usual. I made a list of several possible topics, and I ended up settling on this one.

On Jesus in Fiction

I read Hammered by Kevin Hearne, which is quite bad! I was sort of planning on reading Story of a Soul next, which is something of a whiplash. But the copy that we have at the house is barely holding together, so I did not want to take that as the book to read on my lunch break, else it would get accidentally stained or fall apart in the car. So it was Bone: Quest for the Spark, Volume 2 for that day.

We’ll get to Story of a Soul sooner or later.

In other news, I started watching Warrior on Netflix. A bit different, but I have high hopes after the first episode. We’ll see!

My Aim in Writing

Easter is here! I had bacon yesterday, and we have an eclipse on Monday. Get your glasses! And a doughnut! Since Lent is over, the Tumblog is back for business, so expect Fun Fact Friday, and Movie Munchies reviews if you pay attention to those posts.

I’m reading another Redwall book, in case you’re wondering.

On Critical Dissonance

Hallo! Holy Week is ending! Easter Sunday is tomorrow! Hooray! He will be Risen!

I had a fantastic weekend last week; if you’re on Facebook, look for those pictures. Hopefully they won’t get posted (too) late. I do also feel a bit like I’m crashing after having such a wonderful weekend, though, so pray that I make it through that.

Presently, along with Delicious in Dungeon, I’ve started watching Shogun, as well as doing Brooklyn 99 again now that it’s on Netflix. Great fun!

I know I’ve talked about this before; however! I cannot find any sign of it on the blog right now, which means it’s been over four years since I’ve written this type of Note. So I’m in the clear!

Remembering Physicality in a Fictional World

I was unsure if I’d be able to compose this Saturday Note on time, as I’m out of town this weekend. But here we are! Hooray!

Let’s talk about a writing issue I’ve noticed.

On Scathach

It is my brother and sister-in-law’s anniversary! I must wear the socks.

My computer had a complete nervous breakdown on Thursday, which was quite infuriating and I want to fight someone at Microsoft. However! It seems to be (mostly) behaving right now.

I don’t know if I’ll have a Note for next week, as I will be out of town. I’ll try, though.

Hopefully, I’ll get to see “Dune: Part 2 - Dune Harder” this weekend. Either way, I got to see The Play That Goes Wrong this week, and that was quite a bit of fun.

Now let’s talk about Irish mythology!

The Netflix Adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender

We are past the halfway point for Lent!

Now that I’ve completed season one of the Netflix Avatar, I can finish their live-action take on One Piece, try out Shogun on Hulu, and see what elseI can check out to watch. And it seems like they’re taking Community off of Netflix on April 1st.

Let’s talk about Avatar, and about adapting into live-action. I’ve touched on this sort of thing before, but it’s been a while, so it’s all fair game. That’s how it works, right?

Here be spoilers. But, like, just watch the original series instead, okay? If you haven’t already.

The MCU and Magic

I almost read a different book than the ones I ended up reading this week; however, I felt a bit iffy in the first twenty pages, so I looked up the synopsis. I realize you’re not supposed to do that, and I feel like whipping myself or something, but looking at the summary, I was like, “...no, we’re not doing that.” I had to scramble to find something more cheerful to read. I ended up picking something completely random.

I’ve been in a dour mood. I don’t know exactly what prompted it; I just know reading about someone going through physical, emotional, and spiritual torture is not something I needed this week.

[On top of everything else, it turned out that my computer needed to update as I started writing this Note.]

Random question: have you guys ever used OneNote?

Santino D'Antonio is an Idiot

Last weekend was fantastic! However, my TV decided to die for no discernible reason, so I might be a bit behind on watching things. That, and also giving up PS4 for Lent, means I’m not playing anything, but in the game news sphere we found out recently that Pentiment will be on Playstation and PC, and that the original Battlefront and Battlefront II were getting remasters coming out! Hooray!

Currently, I am reading The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin, and enjoying it more than I expected.

This Note takes some inspiration, in spirit at least, from this ACOUP post (which I think I’ve linked to here before). Next week, I think we’re going to try talking about magic in the MCU.

Anyway, let’s talk about John Wick.

Marvel's Loki

I apologize if this one’s late, or horribly done; I’m a little busy this weekend, so I don’t know that I’ll get this done on time.

My TV appears to have crapped out. That’s… disappointing.

I am re-reading Reaper Man and having quite a good time with it! I also took out Loki: Agent of Asgard from the library, which prompted this essay in my head.

"Dinotopia" for Dragons?

YEAR OF THE DRAGON, BABY!!!

This week had Waitangi Day, that Most Awesomest of Days. It’s been a good week, then, though perhaps I ate too much.

I am caught up on Delicious in Dungeon, I finished The Brothers Sun, and I maybe I’m starting the Netflix adaptation One Piece? And I’m re-reading The Mirror of Merlin by T.A. Barron, thinking again of that annotation site I want to make at some point. Hopefully later this year?

Anyhow, this week I read Dragon Slippers and I also saw How to Train Your Dragon recently, so this might be affecting my thinking.

On Fantastic Religious Weirdness

Hoo boy, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game is out, and, uh, looks like it’s a doozy. They really did it. They really thought a great way to spend your money/time was to develop a looter-shooter at the tail end of that bandwagon, in which you kill beloved superheroes turned into homicidal villains by the Plot, including one who was the main character of the previous four games over the last decade and voiced by a beloved, recently deceased actor. That’s certainly… A Choice.

In good news, though, I read Act of Oblivion this week, which was astoundingly good. Go check it out if you can.

I thought about this Note after a Friday Fun Fact.

On Wyverns

YEAR OF THE DRAGON, BABY!!!

[I realize that Lunar New Year isn’t until February 10th, but I had an idea for a Note and I’m scared that if I don’t do it this week, I’ll forget. Hopefully, we’ll have plenty of dragon-themed Notes this year.]

I’ve had a rough week, I’m behind on posting pictures and writing things, including emails and book reviews. I have however started watching Delicious in Dungeon–we’ll see if that lasts, as I don’t generally stick with anime that aren’t as heavy on Plot. I will say watching it has made me surprisingly hungry.

Random side note! The mechanical pencil I use to draft/outline these is not working. I’m back to using a classical wooden pencil.

2024 Resolutions

I did not have a Saturday Note last week, and I feel a little bit bad about that! So I’m doing a short Saturday Note here. You get two today. Congratulations.

It’s short because I’m a bit behind on a lot of things, including Saturday Notes, but also my Book Diary, movie reviews, and I’ve sprouted some story ideas in the last week or so and I think I should at least get a little started on those.

On Athena

I’m going to try to make up for not having tes out today, in order to make up for not having one last week. We’ll see if that works out.

I just finished reading Moving Pictures, and next I’m going to read the last book of the original Skulduggery Pleasant series.

I don’t have a system to play it, but February 2 is the release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, from the same developer as the Batman: Arkham games; coverage for that has been….interesting, to say the least. I’m very curious to see what reviews will say once the game has come out.

Hate Sinks

Hallo! Today is Epiphany! Or Three Kings Day! Share gifts! Wear a crown! Have a wonderful day today! If you don’t, then you’ll be thrown out of the window by royal decree. This is a True Fact. I don’t make the rules.

Anyhow I was thinking about Ted Faro for reasons beyond my ken, and this idea popped into me head.
