I Know a Trope!

I had a long, slow week–but not a bad one! Hoping to write a bit this weekend, and I hope to draw a specific thing.

Finishing up Borderkind by Christopher Golden. I finished Dark Winds on Netflix, so we’ll see what the next show is.

Sympathetic Telepathy

Out of town again today! It's been a busy couple of months. And I expect the next couple will be busy too. Not sure how, it’s just how things have been going lately.

Facebook doesn’t seem to display Blogspot links properly anymore, which is, uh… frustrating, though at this point it’s not as if I’m going to pick a new blog site over that.

This Note was inspired by Spider-Man: Brand New Day. I’ll still try to avoid major spoilers.

MOAR Odyssey Discourse

Oi. The workdays this week sucked, but outside of work it’s been good, the past weekend was fantastic, and this weekend is scheduled to be a couple of days of chillaxing.

Presently reading London Falling by Paul Cornell, which might not have been the best choice. Hopefully, I’ll watch Spider-Man this weekend, too. Also! The Ninth Jedi episodes of Star Wars: Visions are on YouTube for free right now, to promote their full series on their streaming services. I’ve only seen the first one, back when it came out, which I thought was pretty good.

My Contribution to The Odyssey Discourse

I am out of town for this weekend, and I dunno, I had trouble writing a Saturday Note. I just didn't feel it this week, you know? Just busy planning stuff.

So. A bit of a short one this week.

Fandom Echo Chambers

I am out of town next weekend, so while I will try to get a Saturday Note written in time, I don’t know for sure if it will come out.

I thought I’d have a new review of National Treasure on the movie review blog, except it turns out that I already made a review years ago! So I’ll add some new observations.

Randomly had the thought earlier this week: I should go to DragonCon. Doubt that’ll happen this year, though.

Centuries of Practice

I FINISHED my re-read of The Battle of the Labyrinth, and I have Thoughts, and you’ll see them if you see my book reviews. Now it’s a book about writing. Playing Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, which is going okay, I guess? I dunno, I like the story, but the gameplay has never really been my thing in that one. The Odyssey is out, though I don’t know when I’ll get around to seeing it.

This Note, as will become evident, was inspired by Dead Gods.

On Evil Superman

It’s Slurpee Day! 7-11!

Hello! I am back on Assassin’s Creed with Revelations (I should have done AC3 for the Fourth, but I’m a stickler for being in order). I am re-reading Thud!; after that is a book about writing, I think. Or maybe I finally get to annotating Battle of the Labyrinth

And! I have been watching My Adventures with Superman! It’s a delightful series, and it inspired this week’s Saturday Note.

Also! Yes! We have some tomatoes.

American Revolution Recommendations

Arms still feel weird, and my plans for next weekend kind of crashed, but I get a long weekend! It’s the Fourth of July! Independence Day! Nobody drink tea, or you’re not Patriot!

I have been getting weirdly into this thing by Matt Rhodes, one of the concept artists on Dragon Age, titled Dead Gods, which is a crazy fantasy take on the story of Noah? With some Book of Enoch and other bits thrown in there.

Also! I finished Stray!

The Villain Ensemble

I was feeling a bit down on Friday, but when I got home, I had a letter in the mail! So that was exciting. I still need to figure some things out, though. Also my arm has been hurting/feeling weird? Hopefully, I’ll be better by Monday. I’m out of town today, in what’s planned to be a relaxing history day.

Finished a book that was a history of the steampunk subgenre. It was alright? It was fine. Not sure what’s next.

Movies as the Default Form of Storytelling

I woke up yesterday with my guts feeling downright awful, though I expect by the time you read this I’ll be much better. If not, then, uh… hm. Problem.

Presently reading a collection of science-fiction stories that I found in a book sale about a month ago. After that is re-reading either The Demon Redcoat or The Battle of the Labyrinth. And I’m still playing Stray.

John Wick is (Relatively) Well-Adjusted

I’m out of town again this weekend, with even less writing time, so hopefully I can get this out on time and you can read it.

To try something else, I started playing Stray on PS4. It’s fun so far! I’ve just caught up on book reviews/readings, but I should have a couple of really long books to get through soon (if I haven’t already).

On Cold Iron

I am out of town this week, but I hoped to write a Saturday Note! I thought I’d try to talk about something again instead of doing a sort of argument/criticism piece. And not about Assassin’s Creed this time!

RIP Anthony Head.

Assassin's Creed in Space

My stomach appears to be a lot less grumpy than it was last weekend! I’ll take that win. Next week I’m out of town again, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to get a Saturday Note up in time.

Right now I’m almost done with Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. Naturally the following game might be Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, but I’m a bit tired of playing Assassin’s Creed games for the moment, so we might take a break with something like Stray. Finishing up Going Postal, then we’re onto a new book.

This one doesn’t really have an argument, it’s more like, “Hey, this is crazy, and I want to talk about it.”

'Not How I Wanted It' as Criticism

I’ve been out for a bit the last couple of days, so there’s even LESS planning on this Saturday Note than usual.

Presently I am reading a book about medieval manuscripts. Not sure what I’m watching, other than occasional Elementary episodes. Still playing Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. I’ve got it on the schedule to paint and finally do those Titan’s Curse annotations, too.

Kit Fisto Rules

I expect to be out of town today. And I had an idea for a bit of a dour Saturday Note, with examples from both fiction and real life, but you know what? The world is messy right now. You don’t need that. We need something fun. So we’re going to talk about a character who is both incredibly awesome and very underrated.

For Reasons.

Presently watching Kim’s Convenience while it’s still on Netflix (leaves in June). Behind on book reviews (again).

Anyway, your Moment of Zen.

In Praise of Shinwell Johnson

AGH I’m so behind on everything–letters, annotations, and reviews. It’s freaking me out a bit.

The NC Zoo is waiting on the NC budget to clear so they can finish working on their new Asia section, by the way. They have a new director, though.

Star Wars Day was Monday, so here’s your jam for the week.

Enjoyment of Bad Movies

Since Star Wars Day is Monday, I considered doing a Star Wars Saturday Note, but I don’t know what I’d say? I guess I’m a bit Star Wars’d out on interesting essay topics.

I am a bit behind on letters, which is frustrating, though hopefully I can get that done in the next week. Still need to find a place to put annotations, though.

Presently reading An Unexpected Apprentice by Jody Lynn Nye!

The Historical Epic Tour

The mouth still feels weird, but the dentist said everything looks fine, which made me think it’d be better by now. And I suppose it is better, just very slowly… look, I’m getting tired of this. So I’ve been brushing and flossing and mouthwashing because that makes it feel a bit better.

I finished The Egyptian–which inspired this Note (although originally I had a completely different topic)--and apparently the English translation is hundreds of pages shorter than the original Finnish? Which is wild, because the book is five hundred pages. What the eff!

The Extended Editions

My mouth has been feeling weird all week, sometimes achey, and my anxiety keeps telling me that my teeth are about to all fall out. The soonest I could get a dentist appointment was Monday morning, so let’s pray that I don’t lose everything before then. It doesn’t really have any splitting pain, though, so that seems like it’s probably a good sign.

I realized that I need a place to put my letters and drafts–right now I just have several large piles of paper.

The last two seasons of Brooklyn 99 are now on Netflix, so I am watching those. Just started The Egyptian by Mika Waltari, and man, our guy Sinuhe is not making good decisions.

On Mind Control/Possession

Oof, stressful week, I have horrible headaches, but it is still the Easter season, it is the weekend, and I have some Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood to play! And I’m caught up on all the books I had been planning on, so that is a bit of a relief (now I need to find some more…).

And I got Return of the King (Extended Edition) from the library!
