2024 Resolutions

I did not have a Saturday Note last week, and I feel a little bit bad about that! So I’m doing a short Saturday Note here. You get two today. Congratulations. 

It’s short because I’m a bit behind on a lot of things, including Saturday Notes, but also my Book Diary, movie reviews, and I’ve sprouted some story ideas in the last week or so and I think I should at least get a little started on those.

New Year’s Resolutions

It is not the first week of the New Year. It is not even close. But it is the first weekend hat feels like the New Year for me, because there were things that needed doing at the beginning of the year, and I’m just now getting a break.

And so while I’m not generally one for New Year’s Resolutions, there are some things that I hope to get done in 2024. So I’m talking about it here.

Write More: Well, duh. Not just the scheduled essays, but I’d like to also finish the current sporking, publish some other things on ImpishIdea, finish at least one of The Novels, do some short stories, write some more letters (BTW let me know if you want me to send you a letter)… yeah, a lot of things. I have a lot of things to write. I’m always a bit behind on that front, and it’s going to stay that way, but hopefully I’ll get a ton of writing done, as well!

One of the things I’m sort-of planning in my head is a web page with book annotations? Starting with Lost Years of Merlin. It might look more like 13th Depository than L-Space, and not be very organized, but I think it’d be a cool thing to do! And a cool project.

Read More: I feel strange, because at the end of 2022, I kept asking myself if I had any reason to keep doing the Book Diary. And now I don’t see why not? I’m planning to try to take it a bit more relaxed, because I don’t want to keep trying to break the previous year’s record of books. All the same, it will still be a lot of books–I expect around 150 this year?

This probably also means more long books. There’s a prequel, I believe, to Priory of the Orange Tree that’s pretty hefty (as the original was) that I want to get to. And I want to finish some serieses and re-readings. I’m working now on finishing the original run of Skulduggery Pleasant, and don’t plan to pick up the next series. I want to finish the Lost Years of Merlin and its sequels, and maybe re-read Codex Alera. I probably won’t finish Discworld, and I need to do some more Redwall.

Also, feel free to give me book recommendations at any time. I can’t promise I’ll get to them all, though.

Go to the Movies More: I didn’t actually go to the movies that much in 2023? I feel a bit bad about that. I want to see more movies, I just need to find movies that interest me. That might involve taking advantage of Fathom Events more. I like the experience of being at the movies, y’know, and seeing something new and exciting. Hopefully, with Dune 2 and a couple of others I’ll at least go a handful of times.

I do hope, also, to see some of the next season of The Chosen when it shows in theaters. I should look into booking those tickets, actually…

Travel More: I see people I know seemingly going everywhere, and I don’t expect to do that. I’m not going to do that. I’m not that adventurous. I do hope to have one big, exciting trip this year. Other than that, though, I’d like to do a lot of smaller trips. There are a lot of cool places to see in this state, and the next state over! I don’t need to hop on a plane for that.

Museums! Historic sites! Tiny little zoos! Botanical gardens! And even for some places that I could jump on a plane for, I can visit some people I know who live in different parts of the country. 

I want to see more and take way too many pictures. It sounds like fun.
